All right, reasons to watch The Musketeers:

stopandsmellthedata:

  • it’s The Three Musketeers, which is basically excellent in every adaptation, seriously, name an adaptation that wasn’t excellent
  • D’Artagnen is sometimes shirtless
  • all the swords go “shing!” when drawn, and make pleasing clashing noises when they collide with other swords
  • Milady DeWinter sort of scares me
  • but she generates UST with literally everyone, including D’Artagnen’s other romantic interest, Madam Bonacieux. Plus, she’s already slept with two out of four protagonists.
  • Cardinal Richelieu is played by Peter Capaldi, so if you want to get a feel for his acting before meeting Twelve, here he is
  • it seems reasonably historically accurate to 1630s Fance
  • you will want to cry about Athos
  • there are only three episodes so far, with fourth coming tomorrow (2/9) so it’s really easy to catch up, and the first season will only last 10 episodes. It’s a BBC drama. If it’s renewed for a second season, they’ll somehow deal with the fact that Capaldi won’t be available for filming.
  • attractive people, many of whom wield swords and muskets, playing power games and/or seeking justice in 17th century France. What’s NOT to like?
