if you’re taking requests at the moment would it be possible to get the bit from episode one this series where they arrive at the prison and athos gets confronted with questions in spanish with aramsi jumping in to save him from blowing their cover?
if anyone knows the exact words in spanish they’re speaking in this scene, let me know!
sorry this is later than my message earlier said, not first language and honestly sometimes the exact words in english is illuminated by the subtitles – as they mumble sometimes in any language (mostly reblogging this rather than messaging so hopefully other people can concur somewhat) but it is something like:
Guard: ¿veo que encontró el cerdo, (de) rochefort?
(pretty sure he says the de? as in comte de)
Aramis: como puede(s) ver
(i cant tell if hes being familiar (tu) or more polite (usted) i think the former (so puedes) but there’s not much in it – and the guy has just used usted for athos if im right about that (he’s just talking to athos there btw its a singular verb))
Guard: el gobernador os agradecerá
(the middle might be wrong? fairly sure it cant be any other word for governor and agradecerá ‘will be grateful’/’will thank.’ os is plural and familiar for ‘to you’ (only exists in european spanish i think?) could be les which is more polite but it doesnt sound like it)
Aramis: ¿donde se encuentra?
yes i am and yes i can! it’ll have to wait until the weekend though if that’s alright :]
(lit ‘where does he find himself’ or its something with the subjunctive first person encuentre – first word is really hard to pick up but i cant think of a way for it to not be donde)
these sound at least close to anyone?
WAIT, D’ARTAGNAN IN THE BOOKS IS BARELY MORE THAN FIVE FEET TALL??!?! AHAHAHAHAHA THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING I.E. IT MAKES HIM EVEN MORE RIDICULOUS IMAGINE A MIDGET MUSKETEER CHARGING OUT OF THE BUSHES AND TACKLING YOU
HE IS! He totally is, as per chapter 6:
“The Swiss became as purple as a peony. He wore his elegant uniform, D’Artagnan was wrapped in a sort of gray cloak; the Swiss was six feet high, D’Artagnan was hardly more than five;”
That explains a lot, I would say: the short temper, the fact that he wants to duel everyone who looks at him funny. It makes a lot of sense for d’Arty to be tiny. And perpetually angry.
I once saw a review of the musketeers that referred to ‘the improbable heights of the main cast’ (and the level of dental hygiene which is also a good point) which is a fair point cause its 1630 and just over five foot is probably about average (okay still maybe a little shorter than average) from what they estimate from skeletons and military records and the like
– How do I look?
– Beautiful.
For a deserter you show a high degree of devotion to the Queen! Would you defend me with such passion?!
I thought the musketeers ladies challenge thing was a good excuse to try and draw samara – I don’t think i’ve quite got her down yet to be honest but I kind of like the direction this is going in? Also I didnt sign up cause I thought id still be on exams…
Also trying out doing kind of marker washes with pencil lines which is fun
the arabic (hopefully) roughly transliterates as al-adalus, al-maghrib, bayt?
Which vaguely means: what the moors called spain (like 100 years earlier than this but whatever), lit. the west an arabic name for morocco (remaining the only arabic word I actually vaguely know), home?
And I know very little arabic grammer but its also not really meant to be a coherant sentence
bayt I think maybe more commonly used to mean house – but it also means a line in a poem (and can mean home so its meaning home here)
