It’s just struck me that Slytherin common room could have a very similar aesthetic to the House of Commons/Lords.

Just, with the green leather benches, I can just imagine it having lots of elaborate stone and wood work (and the political nature ties in with the idea of many slytherins coming from rich and political backgrounds)

maybe they designed the houses based on their hogwarts houses…

The house of Lords does have red leather…

(although Lords is hereditary and picked from CEO’s and stuff whilst Commons is elected…)

well when it burnt down in 1834 parliment were allowed to commission a redesign and had the potentail to make it more fit for purpose and descided to not do that and rebuild it keeping the too small rooms that didn’t work for what they needed it too cause tradition, so that works.

It was a royal palace previous to 1542. Depends when slytherine common room got the aesthetic, whether it was influenced by the palace and then influenced the current buildings or influenced by current houses of parliment buildings. The original palace on the site would predate hogwarts (though heavily modified over the years and i think more fires)
