vaguely related to thing I reblogged
earlier:

I find it harder to get invested in
female characters (and therefore in relationships involving them –
although by relationships I dont realy mean romantic ones) and I
think thats a problem. I don’t think how women are written in media
is (predominantly or solely) to blame for that.

It is true that within any one work
male characters tend to get better development and characterisation
than their female conterparts but that doesnt mean that all male
characters get better development than all female characters across
every piece of media ever nor does it mean that side characters would
be better developed than main characters even within one work.  Or to
put that another way i’ve deffinitly managed to indentify with poorly
written poorly developed male characters so i should be able to do that with female characters regardless of the quality of the writing.

And getting invested in characters
takes work even if you dont realise it does (because we do it
automatically with male characters basically), at the very least it
requires watching/reading/listening to their scenes with some degree
of attention but it usually requires the effort to be made to
understand them on some level. Basically I have to make sure I apply
that same effort attention and time to female characters because
currently I dont (and I think a lot of other people don’t either) – I will say that when starting to try and do that having well written characters is a better (or at least easier) starting point

((I think I have other personal reasons to not indentify with female characters as often that aren’t neccesserily a problem – there is an element of it being easier to relate to characters with certain things in common (and one of those could be gender) there to and not just misogyny))

hmmm…other than outright lieing how do I tell someone who I’m fairly friendly with that i’m probably not going to vote for them for lgbt+ officer for student council at uni…I really don’t think they’re the right person for the job
