Another witness in Michael Brown shooting found dead
December 9, 2014

Another witness of the shooting of Michael Brown has been found dead in a dry channel near River Des Peres in Misssouri, local authorities confirmed.

The man has been identified as 23-year-old Shawn Gray, a black man who testified during the grand jury proceedings over the killing of Brown by former police officer Darren Wilson.

According to relatives and friends, Gray was last seen leaving a restaurant on Thanksgiving Day. The manner and cause of his death are pending autopsy results. However, his family is demanding answers and say the death could have been premeditated murder.

Another witness DeAndre Joshua, also a young black man, was found shot dead and his car was torched outside the same neighborhood where Brown was killed.

Two witnesses of the Brown shooting have now been found dead under suspicious circumstances, while local authorities have not announced any leads in either case, and the press has provided minimal coverage.

The police murders of black young men in recent months has provided a stark reminder to the world of the harsh reality faced by many black communities in the United States. Their deaths exposed the continued persecution of black people.

Mass protests against these injustices have taken place across the country. Protesters are demanding justice for black lives lost at the hands of state sanctioned violence, with over 100 days of peaceful protest ranging from #HandsUpWalkOut and solidarity days with Ferguson.

Four petitions worth signing:

thedatingfeminist:

This one is extremely important: the President is required to respond to this if it gets over 100k signatures. This one is to bring Darren Wilson up on federal charges.

Body cams for cops, equally important: the President is required to respond to this if it gets over 100k signatures. This is what the Brown family supports to help create police accountability.

You can also write to your local representatives and demand body cams for police officers and ask them what they’re doing to create police accountability in your community.

Attention Londoners! Ferguson solidarity event outside the US Embassy tomorow. Message me if you want to meet up/need someone to go with. Spread the word!

For anyone else attending this:

 – bring food. Cereal bars are fine, but given the time it’s at and the time it may take to get there, you might not have had time to eat properly beforehand. Bring something you can eat cold that won’t cause too much mess.
 – bring water. Tea in a thermos is good as well since it will be damn cold, but either way stay hydrated. You might think you will be fine, but bring some water anyway in case you or your friends aren’t.
 – bring ID. Our police are not like American police, but are still known to make crowd pushes, kettle, and misbehave sometimes. Bring ID so that if you are under 18 you can get yourself past the barriers and get home safe in the unlikely event of police misbehaviour.
 – for the love of the gods, dress sensibly. Not just what you might wear to stand at a bus stop and otherwise be warm, but dress for standing outside in zero degrees for an extended period of time. Scarves, coats, hats, gloves. Boots you can stand comfortably in for more than half an hour.
 – UMBRELLAS. Seriously, it’s almost certainly going to be raining tomorrow night as well as being bloody cold, so bring umbrellas or ponchos or whatever. This is technically part of the previous point, but merits its own note.
 – Clean up after yourself and please do not vandalise. Bring a bag for your rubbish, or a big bag for your rubbish and other people’s. There will be a lot of people there, and there will be a lot of litter, and we don’t want there to be any excuse for people going on about “vandals” afterwards, because that will make it a hell of a lot harder for the demonstration to be heard and not just dismissed.

The media will try to dismiss you as teenagers or ignorant or vandals or on any other grounds they can possibly grab. Don’t let them. Be heard, and be responsible.

I’m so glad this is being recognized and protests over this are happening outside the US. Thank you all.

Reblogging for Zigraves’ good and important commentary. Keep safe and healthy friends!

Darren Wilson Has Escaped Indictment

missjune-1975:

padfhoot:

Darren Wilson has escaped indictment for his murder of Michael Brown in what is known as the ‘Ferguson case’ after being brought before the Ferguson Grand Jury. Please sign this petition for this case to be brought in front of the Missouri Supreme Court. The decision reached by the Ferguson Grand Jury was unjustly decided, and this case must be brought to a higher level of court where a higher level of justice can be fought for.

DON’T SCROLL PAST THIS ONE. SIGN.

Happening Now (10.8.14): Oh dear God, not again. Another life lost in St Louis. So little information right now, but it seems that an unarmed 18-year old boy was tased then shot 16 times by an officer, possibly off-duty. Not clear what provoked the event, but I’ll keep you updated as info is released. #staywoke #blacklivesmatter

In a post-Ferguson world, Americans increasingly doubt the notion of colorblind justice.

HOW THE FUCK DID THE PERCENTAGE GO UP FOR WHITE PEOPLE

IN WHAT UNIVERSE DOES A POLICE OFFICER SHOOTING AN UNARMED BLACK KID (AND THEN ATTEMPTING TO COVER IT UP AFTER THE FACT) CONSTITUTE EQUAL TREATMENT IN THE JUSTICE SYSTEM

LIKE WHO LOOKS AT THAT AND GOES “WELL, BEFORE I THOUGHT THAT THERE WAS RACISM IN OUR JUSTICE SYSTEM, BUT THEN THIS SHIT HAPPENED AND NOW I SEE THAT IT’S PERFECTLY EQUAL”

WHAT THE FUCK

This increase can be explained by an interesting social phenomenon called ‘denial.’

They benefit from not knowing.. and from believing in myths.

Comparing beliefs before and after Michael Brown’s murder and the surrounding revelations of racism that have sprung out of it, white people, as a demographic believe, MORE THAN EVER BEFORE, that the criminal justice system treats whites and blacks equally.

That is, MORE white people believe the criminal justice system treats black equally now than they did before Michael Brown’s death.

In essence, for white people, blatant systemic oppression and the murder of an unarmed young black man gives them even more reason to believe blacks are treated fairly by the system.

This confirms an earlier study that said the more you tell white people that the system is inherently racist, the more they supported harsher punishments for black people: http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2014/08/07/3468368/study-white-people-support-harsher-criminal-laws-if-they-think-more-black-people-are-arrested/

Marinate on these inhumanities for a second.
