TW: genocide mention
On the oppression of Jews today
*sigh*
Where do I even begin with this one?
How about we start with that last tweet: “you’re not being blamed for poisoning wells and it’s not a genocide, ergo it’s not systematic oppression.” Might I remind you that antisemitic hate crimes account for 62% of religious hate crimes in the US? Islamophobic hate crimes only account for 12%. Jews are attacked more than Muslims are in America, and that’s saying a LOT.
Also, people who code as POC can oppress other people who code as POC. That’s what’s happening when European Jews commit atrocities against Ethiopian Jews. It’s an intra-Jewish issue and something that we need to work on as a group, not something goyim can use to try and invalidate our oppression. Similarly, talking about Israel’s imperialism in a conversation about whether diaspora Jews are oppressed is conflating diaspora Jews with Israel (something that results in a lot of violence against us in Europe) and completely ignores the fact that people can be oppressed and oppressors at the same time. For instance, Obama is a black man. He’s black, so he’s oppressed, but he’s also responsible for a lot of oppressive shit that the American government has done over the past 6 years.
Just to give you an idea of what’s been going on right now,
A BB gunman fired at Jews on Rosh Hashanah (our new year)
A senate candidate in Ketucky used the slogan “with Jews we lose”
This (not US, but still modern antisemitism)
And a hell of a lot more that you can find with just one google search.
And as a side note, g*psy is an anti-roma slur, and you might want to stay away from it.
