Welcome to the first round of Les Mis Big Bang! Big Bangs are challenges that are all about the collaboration between authors and artists, resulting in a long piece of fanfiction with accompanying artwork

How It Works

First off, authors sign up to the big bang to write a story that has a minimum length of 10,000 words. We’ll have a prompting post up where people can suggest things for authors to write, to help people decide what they want to write. They’ll get a few months to work on their story and then they’ll need to submit a rough draft and a summary of their story.

These summaries will then get posted anonymously and artists will be able to claim a story to create art for. Once authors and artists are matched up, they’ll receive each other’s contact details so that the author can send their artist a copy of their WIP and they can collaborate from there.

Once posting time comes around, you will need to host your fic and art on an external site and link them here in your post. There will be more information on posting guidelines once we approach the posting period). For authors, you can post on AO3, LJ, Dreamwidth and just about anywhere else that can host your fic (we discourage posting on tumblr due to issues with “read more” cuts – think of the poor people using the tumblr app).

Artists can post to tumblr, deviantART, LJ, Dreamwidth and anywhere else that can host their work or can simply provide a direct link. Fics and artwork must not be posted anywhere until your posting date.

Am I allowed to sign up as both an author and an artist?
Absolutely!

What are the fic requirements?
Aside from the 10,000 word minimum, all fics must be read by a beta. There will be a post in which people can sign up as beta readers so if you don’t already have one, you can find one there or on the lesmisbetasearch tumblr. All fics are expected to have proper formatting with line breaks and spacing.

I have a WIP already. Can I finish that for the big bang?
Unfortunately, no. We encourage you to write new fics in the spirit of the challenge.

What kind of art is accepted?
We will accept any kind of art, including but not limited to traditional drawings, digital drawings, fanmixes, fanvideos, podfics, photo sets and gif sets. If you want to do something that isn’t listed and you’re unsure whether it’s allowed, please don’t hesitate to ask!

What are the art requirements?
All that we ask is for you to put as much effort into your artwork as your author has into their fic. This means a completed drawing rather than a quick sketch, or a fanmix of at least 8 songs and cover art. For gif sets, there must be a minimum of 3 sets and photo sets must have a minimum of 20 total images used across multiple sets.

What pairings/themes are allowed?
We will accept anything and everything. If you are creating a work that features graphic depictions of violence, major character death, rape/non-con or underage sexual context, we ask that you use appropriate warnings when posting. If you work contains a theme that isn’t listed and you are unsure whether it needs a warning, please ask.

Is RPF allowed?
No, as this big bang will only focus on the characters themselves.

Are crossovers or fusions allowed?
Absolutely! We only ask that the work focuses mainly on the Les Mis characters.
