people in britain who will be over 18 by the 23rd of June this year: register to vote in the EU referendum!! you can register to vote here. the deadline is the 7th of June, in two and a half weeks.
having registered to vote in the May elections does NOT mean you are automatically registered for the referendum – you need to do that separately
you don’t need to register again – if you got a polling card for the local elections in May and you haven’t moved then you’re on the electoral roll already. from the link above:
“You don’t need to register again in order to vote in the EU referendum if both of the following apply:
– you were registered to vote in the May 2016 elections or the 2015 General Election
– you still live at the same address”If you want a postal vote, it’ll depend whether last time you asked for a one off postal vote or not. If you’re not sure it’s probably worth filling in the form again
You only have to reregister if you move/otherwise change address – there’s a yearly form where you confirm people in your household which is different (the idea is anyone not already registered when you return this form will then be sent another form to do so)
You do now have to register yourself previously one person would register for the household (this was before the last general election that changed though)
You have to contact you local electoral office to check if your registered (the central electoral register can’t tell you…for reasons…)
I got a polling card for this today if that helps anyone – but that might be different depending where you live
