Just as a general point: you don’t get to say something is taken, apropriated or stolen by a group if they adopted this practice as a minority group in your country or from a colonial power…because that’s not how that works and is totally the wrong framework to apply.

- 'you stole this from Germany/Egypt/Spain/iraq' etc
- (clearly a bit of an ask...)
- (not that those periods of foreign rule were worse or anything - just I'd more expect people to know something about them)
- and 'britain did so much for india'
- and I'm talking from personal experience I guess but that applys to loads of other groups also
- and like you realise they invaded us right?
- and then we get it in the diaspora too
- as in people do it to them too
- its apologia for colonialism
- its the same thing as 'well I don't mind if this minority group in my country does x so I can do stuff from there culture also'
- no because it's totally the wrong framework to apply here
- or I saw something yesterday saying Jewish people stole things from the Assyrians and Babylonia
- or its a deliberate denial of diaspora minority groups being part of the country they live in
- you even see this about Greek and Roman influenced stuff in Jewish culture
