the thing that really pisses me off about jk rowling’s piss poor attitude about exploring wizardry in america while ignoring racism is that her whole GIMMICK thus far has been about specifically about underdogs, the underprivileged and outcast, the entire time!! the WHOLE series we were rooting for the little guy and people who went through true hardships, people like us whose stories we could relate to, who had to face these interconnected problems to overcome their personal stories, and she should KNOW that in her position of power, glossing over racism, the story of true disadvantage in america, just to make her new story safe and digestible for other white people like her is a Really Bad Move and it’s lazy, disrespectful, and disgusting

She explored wizardary in the UK while ignoring racism also, so I wouldn’t exactly call this off-brand. (Racism is a story of true disadvantage here too you know?)

We’re often rooting for people who are underdogs or outcasts sure but most of them are so because of fictional/allegorical reasons…and not often for things that also exist in our world.

I agree with you that it’s an aweful aproach…I just don’t think it’s new.
