“I wonder what ever happened to the Potters’ cat?” – A good chunk of the fandom talking about the cat that Harry nearly ran over on his toy broomstick
Well, I have a theory!
See, I think that the cat was in the house when Voldemort came. But fear not! He survived. He hid in the shadows as a giant man came by, followed by the man who petted him when Lily and James weren’t looking. The giant took the screaming baby and left. The man eventually left as well. A rat scurried into the house and transformed into another man. The cat recognized him. He had never trusted this man. And now he knew why. He was a rat. But then the man leaves and officials arrive and start moving things. The cat ultimately leaves as he realizes that there’s nothing there for him anymore.
So the years pass and the cat gets taken in and abandoned by family after family before ultimately finding himself in a pet shop in Diagon Alley. And it’s there that a girl adopts him.
You can probably tell where I’m going with this.
The cat immediately realizes that the girl’s friend’s rat was the man from before – the bad man. And so the cat tries to get him with every chance that he gets. Unfortunately, it’s to no avail.
But one day, while patrolling the grounds, the cat comes across the other man – the nice one, the one who was a self-proclaimed ‘dog person’ but still had stroked the cat’s ears when he had thought that the two were alone. And ‘dog person’ was a fitting description. The man was now a dog. Yet, he as a kind dog, just as he had been a kind man. And so the cat helped him into the castle. The cat even protected the man when the boy wanted to attack.
Seriously though, it makes sense!
Crookshanks = The Potters’ old cat.
