I honestly think people forget that the church and state are supposed to be separate. Give me one non-religious reason against same sex marriage. One non-religious reason against stem cell research. One non-religious reason against safe abortions. Go ahead.
I’ve been saying this for YEARS.
This keeps popping up on my dash from uk people today and its not an argument that really works here the head of state and head of the church of england are the same person (the queen) the links nowadays mostly exist as a formality but theres still 26 seats in the house of lords for the most senor CofE bishops – the system is simply not founded on the principle of separation of church and state as it is in the us
(And if it did apply it’d be specifically christian reasons and influences which is also the same in america not some vague ‘religious’)
