GUYS THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT!!!

Conventions really seem to split people down the middle between those who are awesome and helpful to the disabled people around them and those that really don’t.

The latter included practically climbing over wheelchairs and really not being aware of bags and things that we get clattered with, as well as the abuse of disabled toilets, which are essential for disabled people.

Wheelchairs don’t fit in regular stalls and people often have companions or carers of the opposite sex, which make toilets even more of a kerfuffle.

While it was slightly humerous to see a very sheepish Spider-Man and Black Cat after a ridiculously long wait for the loo, it’s just not on.

Cosplayers and abled bodied people please, please, please be awre of this!

(hope you don’t mind me reblogging this)

was generally fairly unimpressed with lfcc re:accessibility, mostly volenteers and info people didn’t seem to have been given any information on how to help disabled attendees and being over capacity which is aweful for several reasons but some of them are about accessibility for disabled people, but this is really, really good (this is from the con I presume? it might be illustrating what they should have done – and what more cons should do also really)

(I would add that some able bodied people are entiled to use accessible facilities in more general terms. Parent’s with children particularly with different genders or more than one child who you can’t leave unattended due to size of cubicle, diabetic people who self inject and people disposing of incontinance pads and cleaning up due to there being a contained private sink and having a bin, anyone with safety concerns using the other bathrooms etc etc. when there’s no alternative like a family room or other single cubicle bathroom. but yeah I’m fairly sure there was a changing area for cosplaying attendees anyway -there is at most cons- and getting changed doesn’t come under any of that at all)
